Hi! I'm running Manjaro with KDE on my work computer and I've run into a strange issue multiple times and I wonder if you have any input on how to solve it.
When the computer has been on for a couple of days (not sure exactly how long) the UI starts freezing every time the screen goes to sleep, e.g. soon after I lock the computer or idle for ~10 minutes. When I try to start using it again my two screens only contain a still image of what was last rendered but it's not updated anymore. Interestingly I can still interact with my programs in the background. I've found a two workarounds that I can use; firstly to enter another tty and switch back (ctrl+alt+f2 followed by ctrl+alt+f1). This unfreezes the UI until the next time my screen goes to sleep. The other option I have is rebooting which solves the problem for a few days until it returns. Neither of these are practical when I'm working from home and have programs open that I don't want to restart over and over again; thankfully I can change tty with ssh and the chvt command... Have anyone here seen this issue before? Please let me know if there are any log-files or other information that might help diagnose this. I did check XOrg's log but there was nothing of interest there. I think this is actually a kernel problem. There is a reason why some Plasma devs still run Kernel 5.4.x...
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |
