Hey,
I have a problem with the System Tool "Video Record" on Kubuntu with KDE 4.1! I ticked the checkbox and after that the screen went black!! So I changed to the text/shell-mode and killed every suspicious looking process, because I don't know the exact process name. After that, the background appeared in graphicmode, but nothing else was working and after a restart and the log in I had the same problem (black screen again) CTRL+ALT+V or META+CTRL+V doesn't quit the video record program! Please, I need help! !!UPDATE: I killed the kwin process and the desktop was back again, but I can't switch between several windows now and do not have access (can't see) to the task bar!!

This wouldn't be the "Video Record" option in System Settings > Desktop > Desktop Effects would it? If it is, could you please remove the following file:
You should then be able to login normally again, after logging out. If it was not, could you please provide the file:
KDE Sysadmin

Thank you very much!
I am able to work with the UI again. My question is now: How can I record the screen with "System Settings > Desktop > Desktop Effects > Video Record" or any other Tool (which will work on KDE 4.1)? Thanks for your help! |

Have you tried xvidcap?

Hey,
I am back and still working on my Kubuntu system. Thank you Xinix, xvidcap works, the only thing I did wrong was, that I tried to play the recorded movies with the included Dragon Player which isn't able to play the xvidcap format. BUT now I have another problem with xvidcap! Xvidcap permanently freezes after some seconds of recording and simply everytime I start programs while recording! Does anyone know, if this is a specific problem with the KDE 4.1 UI or is the program itself so unstable? ----------------------------------------------------- My Computer configuration is: Fujitsu Siemens - AMILO M3438 Processor: Intel Pentium M 740 RAM: 2x 512MB DDR2 Graphics: Nvidia GeForce 6800 Go ---------------------------------------------------- Thanks for your support! |

I agree with waldelf. recordmydesktop is perfectly suited for recording (and as a matter of fact the students of Kourse 2 used that): there are also some GUIs such as qrecordmydesktop.

If you want a GUI, you can use krecordmydesktop, but it is still Qt3

Hey guys, I thank you a lot for your support, but the graphic card of my notebook broke down and so I decided to put the Kubuntu System into a virtuel machine and recorded the screen with the in VMWare Workstation included video capture tool.
Now my project is finished and I want to say that it was a really crazy but sometimes a good time too with my Kubuntu system. My project was about creating a video tutorial (as a DVD) of Kubuntu for the students of my high school in Austria! With the best regards, JiB |
