Hi, just got the kde4 upgrade in ubuntu. I don't like the new itunes like alt-tab behavior, where the windows flip by. I want the list as was in kde3. How to get it back?

Try changing the "Effect for Window Switching" in System Settings > Desktop > Desktop Effects

Go to System Settings -> Desktop -> Desktop Effects -> All Effects tab, and under the Window Management section, uncheck the alt+tab window switchers. This will give you the one that's like in KDE 3.
Edit: bcooksley is too fast

Yeah, by the way for any kde developers reading this, a cool feature might be to combine the window list and the itunes like window flipping. I am not opposed to eye popping effects, but I find it crucial to be able to quickly see how many times I have to press alt-tab to activate the window I need (typically amongst 10-15 or so open windows), or weather I should be hitting shift-alt-tab instead 'cause it would be faster to wrap around to the other end of the list. |

Go into System Settings -> Desktop and enable Cover Switch again then go into the "All Effects" tab, scroll to the bottom then click the configure button next to the Cover Switch entry. While in there enable the thumbnail bar and disable "dynamic mode". Now you will have a window list displayed at the top of the screen that will display all your windows, if the window is on the left use shift+alt+tab; if it's on the right use alt+tab. |

not seeing thumbnail or dynamic mode in there... i have KDE 4.3.1... There is a "box switch" which shows the horizontal list. My first impression is "I don't like it." sorry dude! A separate note, the animation speed default of 200ms is waaaaay toooo sloooow. I set at 50ms and its much better for quickly popping around. reduces the annoyance factor quite a bit.

I think you mean 4.1.3. The feature I was pointing you to is in 4.2 and is pretty much what you want. I highly recommend you upgrade.
