disappearing titlbars

Thu Apr 30, 2009 3:17 pm
P4 C2D 3.0mhz 3.0gb ram nvidia 8500gt opensuse 11.0 kde 3.5.9 Desktop effects Disabled

I have had this happen a couple of times and am looking for a fix for it and also a way to safely get titlebars back w/o having to hard reboot. I can't shut down/reboot because the p2p chatroom I run would be lost.

This usually happens as I am sorting/moving files using Konqueror. I may have 2 or 3 konqueror files open on my desktop in the process of moving files and all of a sudden the titlebars on all open windows disappear. I can close the windows but this does not bring the title bars back. I posted in opensuse forum and someone suggested I open a terminal and type kwin --replace& but when I open a terminal I cannot type into it.
Without going into a lot of explanation, I do not want to switch to KDE 4.

Can anyone tell me why this happens and what I can do?

Are you running compiz or compiz fusion?

ty tekwyzrd for reply

Being fairly new to this linux/kde stuff, I am not really sure.
However, I do have desktop effects disabled, but then I have seen that compiz and compizfusion things are installed when I look in Yast pkg manager and under Apps>Utilities>Desktop I have something called CompizConfig Settings Manager.
If desktop effects are disabled does that mean Compiz is not running?
