I've compiled whole KDE 4.4 beta2 successfully but when I try to switch to opengl compositing effects it warns me about hardware incompatibility.
I was compiling according to techbase.

I do think it's not hardware problem because I run opengl compositing on my Kubuntu with KDE 4.3.x with great success.

I'd like to switch to opengl cause xrender makes my effects really slow.

What graphics card do you have? It may be incorrectly blacklisted in KWin, if it operates without any issues in 4.3.

Can you please test disabling the functionality tests? ( in the Advanced dialog )
Have you recently upgraded the ATi drivers ( or alternately, do you need to upgrade them )

Yeah, after disabling functionality test it works. Before I'd written this post I also tried it but it wouldn't work. Weird. But now it works perfectly.
