How do I set KWin to activate and raise a newly opened window. When I am in an xterm, and I open a file for viewing it goes to the background. For example, I am working in a terminal, and I launch the following command.

gvim foo &

foo is opened behind the active terminal, and I would like it to be opened, activated, and raised.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Try the following: Right click on Window Decoration of GVim > Advanced > Special Application Settings. Try some of the options available there, which may work.

This usually only happens if there is input to the application after it is launched, but before it takes focus.

Thanks for the input, but gvim is not the issue. If I launch any secondary window from the command line, it is set to the background. This is either a KDE setting, or possibly a Konsole setting.

I wonder if it could be related to what "Focus stealing prevention level" you have set?

Have you tried with other programs apart from gvim? I don't use gvim, but every other program I've tried with opens up in the foreground.

Any program I launch from a terminal, goes to the background. I used gvim as an example because I figured it was a program everyone would know, rather than the propriety programs I normally use in my day-to-day work. Where are the focus stealing settings located? I will look at them.

Just made an account to say thanks to Kryten2X4B.

After my first week with KDE, I love it.

I thought this window focus was a fault of KDE, and it was extremely annoying for a new window not to automatically focus.

But I guess it was a feature in disguise, I personally don't know how it is useful other than **** people off lol.

Same here. I also had this one weird window, that just wouldn't go to foreground.

Thanks Kryten2X4B!
