Hi all
I'm just trying 4.5beta1 and I'm interested in the blur kwin effect, but it seems it works quite strange. I'm not sure it's a bug or a feature , so I'm not posting a bug in the bugzilla yet, but I would like to know if it's normal or not. Basically I get blurred background under only some plasma objects (panel, lancelot, plasma notifications) but not in other places like plasma widgets (calendar, clock, notes set to transparent), window thumbnails when using "taskbar thumbnails" kwin effect. Most importantly - it doesn't blur the background of semi transparent windows. Is this how it should work? cheers |

I'm not using 4.5 yet (waiting for binary packages), but I do know that for the plasma widgets the blur effect can't be used. At least, AFAIK plasma widgets have their own way of getting this kinda effects.

It definitely won't blur under plasma widgets on the desktop since those doesn't use kwin, but for the others I see the same thing but I don't know whether they are intentional or not. It is probably better to post a bug report just in case, worst case scenario is that it is marked as "wontfix".

Yeah I thought so - it was also the case with the previous blur effect (the one that was later removed in kde4.3 due to many visual glitches it introduced). But then that 4.2 blur affected regular windows, and for this reason it was quite useful (it served not only as an eye candy). Hopefully it's "just" a bug with 4.5 that the blur doesn't work for normal/application windows, otherwise it only falls in the category of useless eye candies. Will post a bug report - will see what kde devs will say :-P cheers |

Please keep us up-to-date on what they say (or post a link to the bug report).

Seems, that for full blur support, some stuff needs to be done in kde style (oxygen/qtcurve/etc.) : https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=239980 cheers |
