Hello everybody.
Currently on KDE 4.5 (well, actually in almost every WM but one or two), if you have more than one screen and you switch virtual desktops, KWin switches them on all screens. Would it be possible to implement an E17-like behaviour, in which every screen has a degree of independence? I mean, if you're focused on a certain screen (with your mouse) and you switch virtual desktops, then you won't have your virtual desktops on other screens switch also. This would be really useful when you wanted to have a secondary screen to have two or three windows visible all the time. I know this can be workaround-ed by toggling the windows on that screen as visible on all desktops, but it would be nice if we did not need to workaround in this way. Should I open a wish bug for this? Can it be implemented? Thanks for your time and attention. GODLiKE.- |

You mean like Bug #107302?

Maybe, but not quite complicated as it is described in the bug. More like what the last poster in the bug wants: just that the virtual desktop switch takes place on the current screen and not on all screens.
And, as it was stated there, this problem cannot be solved with activities, as you can't (at least as far as I know of) put a set of windows to be visible just on one activity and not on the rest. |

Yes, that's what the whish is about
Starting with 4.5 it is possible to associate windows with activities. |

I voted for the bug, hope it can get implemented in the near future.
Now that you mention it, I looked into that feature (windows visible in specific activities). Very useful, but still the problem of switching virtual desktops in all screens persist. But maybe the problem can indeed be solved with activities. I may be speaking nonsense here, but if activities could be bound to specific screens, and if desktop switching would occur only on the current activity, maybe this indeed can be implemented. |

Well, you can't (yet) associate activities with specific screens, but you can at least associate activities with desktops, which indirectly allows you to associate windows with desktops.
