KWin hard problems!

Thu Aug 19, 2010 6:38 pm
Hei,

I have a problem, effects working fine in general.

But problem is if I modify effects (enables or disables effects in System
Settings -> Desktop Effects and if I press active button then my system hangs,
mouse not working.

Many pictures, if I cliked "activate effects" button in my system settings.

no idea but you should post what versions of KDE and the Nvidia drivers that you are using

have you tried changing composting type to Xrender?
do you have blur effect enabled? if so disable

KDE 4.5, NVidia 9300gs, NVidia 195.36.24.

Blur disabled and xrender is slow.

I haven't used nvidia in quite a while, but you could try updating the driver and see if that solves the problem. There's a 256.x series available (still considered beta though, so you may have to install it from outside the repos).

No, It's KWin problem, how to debug this?

Same problem was before and older KDE and NVidia drivers.

If I change colors or the style of the widget (oxygen, la-ora-KDE, la-ora-Qt, etc) then my panels and the edges of the window crashes (if they are faulty).

Ok I found solution.

Modify settings:

Direct rendering -> enabled.
VSync -> enabled now.

And Texture filter -> Bi linear.

And now KWin works correctly.
