I tried to remove .kde and .kde4 and copy the .kde4 directory of the new user in my $HOME. It doesn't work. I am pretty sure like you it comes from something in $HOME but not in .kde4. |

At last I GOT IT!!
I explain what I did. 1- I've mode my /home* luz to /home/me.save 2- I've deleted my account me 3- I've created a new user me. 4- At this point, desktop effects work. 5- I have moved my documents from /home/me.save to /home* luz step by step. 6- when I moved .bashrc : desktop effects don't work again. I had export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 in old .bashrc. I found this trick to make Zinf work in the past and don't use this soft anymore because very buggy and not maintained yet (works great on MS Windows) 7- I comment export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1, save .bashrc and relog 8- Everything works NOW Of course step from 1 to 6 are not necessary but it made me find the problem. Thanks all for your help I am glad to put a big SOLVED!!!! |

If you re-read the post the poster had the line in his .bashrc but he commented it out as it was causing his problem, if for some reason you do need it just add it on it' own line could you verify that your issue is that effects only work for root, if not please start your own thread with a detailed description of you problem as well as what sw and graphics hw you are running |

This usually corrects the problem only when KWin has blacklisted desktop effects on your system, due to it crashing repeatedly on startup.
