Suspending on external monitor, resuming not on external

Sometimes I hook an up external display to my laptop so that the external is the only display powered and the laptop display is powered off. I then suspendthe laptop and take it away and resume somewhere else. Unfortunately the laptop display is still powered off! I would expect KWin (or whatever handles this stuff, X11?) to realize there's only one monitor available and to power that one.

I've tried using the function keys on my laptop to manually turn on the display but it won't work. Any solution/workaround besides simply remembering to switch displays before I suspend the laptop? (My memory isn't perfect, unfortunately!)

I'm using stock Intel 945GM drivers for Kubuntu 10.10.

As a workaround, I suggest using Custom Shortcuts to run the following command on a shortcut:
Code: Select all
xrandr --output LVDS --auto --primary

You may need to change "LVDS" as needed though, based on the output of "xrandr"
