Hi,
I'm encountering a problem with very high cpu usage from xorg (40-60% just moving a window) and KWin (10-20% moving a window). My setup is: Hardware: Laptop with P7450 CPU (Core2Duo 2.13ghz), 4Gb RAM Software: Windows 7 x64 host, running Opensuse 11.3 KDE (4.4.4) as a guest inside a Virtualbox (3.2.10) I've tried just about everything I can find on the matter, including: Making sure every package is up-to-date Compiling latest kernel (2.6.36) Recompiling VBox guest additions Checking kernel tick (100hz) Increasing vmalloc to 192mb Disabling desktop effects Closing all applets in system tray Disabling compositing with shift-alt-f12 Forcing update of xorg packages But none have had a noticeable impact. I still get an extremely laggy OS, where if I drag a simple dialog about, I get 20 copies of it on the desktop before it refreshes, and XOrg jumps from 1% to 40-60% CPU, and usually kwin to 10-15%, and plasma-desktop to 5-10%. Any help or pointers on the issue would be massively appreciated, thanks. EDIT: I noticed that if I remove the Pager widget, the slow refresh of dialogs when moved is fixed, however the CPU usage is still high. |

Have you installed the VirtualBox Guest Additions in openSUSE 11.3?

Thanks for the reply.
I believe so, I installed them and they didnt fail. The auto-resizing and mouse integration is working, but I'm not sure how you can tell if the VBox graphics driver is working properly? |

It should be working then. Are Desktop Effects enabled in the virtual machine? Open System Settings > Desktop Effects to find out.
