I'm using two different dual monitor setups (1 in work, 1 at home) or only the internal monitor on my laptop.
First, I create some panels on both monitors and it works fine. But when I start switching between monitor setups, the panels start to behave strangely. When I change monitor setup in control panel, the panels breaks. The auto hide stops working or a panel gets lost. When I connect different monitor, I have usually remove and recreate all panels to make it work correctly. Is there an option to quickly switch between monitor setups w/o losing anything?

Also I don't know how to turn off the external monitor. For ex I make the laptop sleep when there's an external monitor attached. When i wake it up at home w/o the external monitor, there's no way how to disable it. The computer still thinks it's there so you can move the mouse out of the primary screen but it's grayed out in the control panel :(
Any suggestions how to change monitor easily? thanks
I'm on opensuse 11.3 x64, opensource ati driver, KDE 4.5.2
