Hey,
I just installed KDE 4.5.4 on my desktop. If I enable desktop effects, I run into weird problems with parts of windows not being repainted properly. Here's a screenshot of it happening. This is what I saw after I clicked on the Konsole button on the taskbar. I didn't have any such problems with KDE 4.5.3. But then I wiped my HDD completely and reinstalled the whole system along with KDE 4.5.4 and this is what started happening. I'm using an nVidia GeForce GT 430 card with the binary blob nvidia driver. I'm running FreeBSD. For the record, my xorg.conf only has four lines in it:
So, does anyone have an idea what might be going on here? |

Does this occur if Desktop Effects are disabled? Also, if you disable all effects, but have Desktop Effects itself enabled, does it occur? Try enabling effects one by one to see when it begins to occur.

It does not happen if Desktop Effects are disabled, no. It does happen when I enable Desktop Effects but disable all individual effects.

Have you tried disabling the Lanczos filter as shown on Martin's blog?

I just did. Problem is still present.
For the record, this is what I have in my kwinrc:
The first two entries were already there, so I left them untouched. |

This is probably an issue with the NVidia driver unfortunately. You may wish to check the Tutorials & Tips section, which has a NVidia topic I believe, which may contain some xorg.conf options which may possibly help.

I have a similar problem with an Intel GMA card. So if this is the same issue, it is perhaps no driver issue.
The problem occured the first time after I switched to KDE 4.5. In the meantime I did a complete reinstall and the problem persists. I'm going to test through the suggestions from above to see if it really can be the same issue. regards |

I don't see the problem with effects disabled. I have yet to reproduce it with effects enabled in general but every single effect disabled.
I am not able to test through the effects, because the display freezes each time I enable one (yay yet another bug!). |

For that display freezing bug, simply switch Desktop Effects off and on using the keyboard shortcut ( Alt + Shift + F12 )

Having the exact same problem on my laptop running Kubuntu 10.10 with KDE 4.5.4. (Integrated Intel 945GM graphics).
Also when attaching an external screen the display would be completely screwed. Disabling desktop effects "solved" the problem as well. Didn't have any problem with KDE 4.5.3 |

I have a Mesa DRI Intel(R) G33 GEM 20100330 DEVELOPMENT and I have the titlebar redraw problem as well. If i turn desktop effects on but disable all the features or select some set of features, I get redraw problems in Chrome and Firefox.
Any idea how to fix? Im using KDE 4.6. |

Both problems appears to go away if I select the Composting type of XRender in the settings application.
