I'm wondering if there's a way to have a window automatically shade when it loses focus, and unshade when it comes back into focus. Use case is a chat window that I want to keep hidden except when I focus the window. Alt-Tab keeps it open, minimizing or shading (through a KB shortcut I created) is extra effort each time. Chat windows are set to appear on all desktops, so hiding it behind the currently active window is not a good option.

Sounds like something that will be possible with KWin scripting. You can read a bit about it here: http://rohanprabhu.com/?tag=kwin_scripting

There isn't, but you can set it to unshade on hover, which should be basically the same in practice.

Thanks, I am now using this with success. I assumed hover meant a mouse needed to be involved, but it functions as desired with alt-tab switching too. Excellent that there is no scripting needed, but great that there's an option like that. Thanks all. |
