Hi,
I am happily running KDE 4.6.0 in Fedora 14 with the nouveau drivers. I'd like to ask if anyone else is seeing this... In System settings -> Desktop effects -> All effects the list I see is completely empty -- if I switch to the nvidia driver, I get the usual choices... Ideas?

I think that maybe kwin looked at you graphics configuration and determined it was not optimal and therefore grayed out the effects - you can try changing composting type from opengl to xrender, might help. What gpu?
fyi - the performance in the proprietary drivers is better so if there's not a reason to use them you should http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=a ... ake2&num=1 finally after changing graphics drivers it might be beneficial to reboot |

This is clearly a setup problem. KWin never removes effects from the list. No matter if possible or not, they are listed.

It's not that they are greyed out -- the list is completely empty! That's what really confuses me. Having tried both drivers, in my case it seems that nouveau performs better; I know I am missing some stuff but it's more stable and the effects smoother.
I'd expect that to be the default behavior but something's clearly wrong in my case. I'll try again with nVidia, maybe a clean install as well and see what happens.

Suggest you login as a new user and see if the missing options are there or not, this would indicate a bad config file on your user id. If so then remove/rename all your kwin*rc files in ~/[.kde|.kde4]/share/config/
"clean install" of Fedora or KDE or the graphics driver? |

Thanks google01103, your suggestion of removing the kwin* files worked. I tried with a new user first and verified that there I could see the effects list.
