Hi there,
I use KDE 4.6.0 and I have enabled compositing and the 3D cube. When I use the 3D cube and move around the cube with the mouse and release the mouse again, plasma desktop hangs sometimes and sometimes only a reset of the computer helps. I have tried everything, newer nVidia driver, different OpenGL settings (texture from pixmap, shared memory), turning vsync on and off, nothing helped. So I guess this is a bug in Kwin effects. Is this behaviour known? Any workaround yet? It is only using the 3D cube that makes the system stall, the other Kwin effects just work fine. My system: KDE 4.6.0 and nVidia Geforce 210M with latest beta driver 270.18, latest stable driver shows the same results Thanx EDIT: I have now disabled the top cover of the cube and it seems now not to lock plasma. |

Hey everyone, having same issues here(had them since around 4.6 rc1). sure hope my distro(opensuse 11.4) doesn't release a stable release without this issue getting fixed.
in my case whenever i do the 3d cube effect and release everything but the mouse freezes sometimes given enough time kde will disable kwin effects because "rendering is too slow" or something like that. my specs: opensuse 11.4(rc1) X.Org X Server 1.9.3 Release Date: 2010-12-13 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 Build Operating System: openSUSE SUSE LINUX Current Operating System: Linux linux 2.6.37 #4 SMP PREEMPT Sun Jan 30 16:36:58 EST 2011 x86_64 Graphics card Model: "nVidia GT200 [GeForce GT 220]" nvidia driver version: NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-260.19.36 hope this gets fixed soon. btw: this is my first post here |

Can you try downgrading to a 259.xx series NVidia driver?
