I want to set a window's transparency / opacity from the command line
and found qdbus, but how do I find out the arguments for the methods?

qdbus org.kde.kwin /KWin org.kde.KWin.reconfigureEffect maybe?..

anyone know how to set the opacity in this way?

As far as I can tell from the interface offered by KWin in KDE Trunk, this isn't possible. You may be able to use KWin rules to greater effect however to achieve what you want.

Hi

I managed to find something for specific applications, eg gwenview:

qdbus org.kde.gwenview-2907 /gwenview/MainWindow_1 com.trolltech.Qt.QWidget.windowOpacity 0.8

but not for the 'current' window or a given window id unfortunately....
