usually it's your graphics card or driver, blur especially can be problematic on lower end cards.

if you are running the opensource drivers changing to the proprietary may help

you can also try changing composting to xrender from opengl

sometimes remove/rename all your kwin*rc files in ~/[.kde|.kde4]/share/config/ helps

:) no....my current system is intel core 3i 2.27 and RAM 3 gb

this is what i've found in pclinuxos control center->hardware->video card->module:card intel 810 or later...

but in the same window there is the config tool and when i open it,it gives me the option to select an x server and chose from a long series of graphic cards..i.e NVIDIA,DIAMOND,DIGITAL,MATROX,ATI,3DLABS...to name only a few...
and in the same list the intel 810 is already selected...

WHat would happen if i was to select a different one and press ok?

I wouldn't if you have an intel gpu then leave it

did you try changing composting to xrender from opengl?

see viewtopic.php?f=66&t=93986&p=190818&hilit=intel+kwin#p190818
and http://blog.martin-graesslin.com/blog/2 ... paces-4-5/, search for intel

when trying to switch to opnegl i get this message"Failed to activate desktop effects using the given configuration options. Settings will be reverted to their previous values.

Check your X configuration. You may also consider changing advanced options, especially changing the compositing type."

and by pressing ok it goes back to previous setting -xrender.

I have a similar intel graphics board, i915 driver. Try "Disable functionality checks" which is kwinrc setting DisableChecks=true. Maybe then OpenGL will activate? Once I did this, I was able to select OpenGL and activate some of the effects you mention.
