Hi there !

I just installed openSuse 11.4 - which comes with KDE 4.6.0 on my Lenovo Thinkpad-standard Intel onboard-grafic.
After login desktop effect are diabled immediatly because there are "too slow".
Is this an issue of kwin, or xorg or mesa ?
Who can I track this problem, which logfiles are important ?

Thanks for help !

(By the way - again an KDE release with severe grafic problems, this is getting really annoying by the time ... >:( )

with try and error I found a different setting which seems to improved the situation :

Desktop effect setting :
Turning Scale method = accurate

Does anybody know for what "scale method" is ?

Hi!

I had exactly the same problem after a fresh install of suse 11.4. Immediately after boot, desktop effects are disabled because performance is too slow. Enabling it again later, same thing happens.

I found that setting Compositing type (Advanced tab under desktop effects) to XRender instead of the default OpenGL fixed this, although I got a message saying some effects could not be enabled. However, I can still have my window transparency that I find quite useful.

Anyone have an idea what the problem might be? Will be much appreciated.

I would suggest checking the load on your system when KWin switches off the effects. Also, which graphics driver and graphics card is in use here?
