[Request] Kwin blur effect script

Sat Apr 30, 2011 9:28 am
Hi all :)

I downgraded from KDE 4.5.5 (too many bugs for me) to 4.4.5 and I'd like to heve the blur effect, as for 4.5.5. Since it isn't in the list, could someone post the script here and tell me how to install it into my system ?

Regards,

KWin's effects are effectively built in to KWin itself despite being loaded from plugins (due to changes in the library which the plugins and KWin itself share), so it probably isn't possible to use the Blur effect from 4.5.5 with 4.4.5 as it will be incompatible.

Are there any solutions to import blur ? I mean, without having to upgrade.
I love transparency and not having my windows blured is a bit disturbing.... ><"

If the kde version(s) supplied by Mandriva do not meet your needs:

1) compile 4.6.x (though your earlier attempts did not work)
2) install Mandriva Cooker version (bit riskee)
3) try Mageia beta (also a bit riskee) but as its a Mandriva fork ..........
4) change distros, both openSuse and Fedora use rpm's so there would be some familiarity

Not for the time being ! since Fedora failed to install and OpenSUsE broke Grub :@

how did openSuse break grub?
did you have a different distro installed that was grub2?
within yast -> system -> boot loader -> other -> propose new configuration

Mandriva uses Grub. Not Grub 2. And I don't want to suppress Mandriva.

Another you might try is PCLinuxOS, the most recent KDE LiveCD comes with KDE 4.5.4, and they have KDE 4.6.3 in the repos. PCLOS also uses grub, as well as Mandriva's Control Center for system administration.
