Hi,
I used Kubuntu on my laptop, and it worked very well. Now I installed it in my desktop pc, but kwin doesn't work well: when I open a window, its decorations are bigger than the window, but "fisically" the button are at the right place: if I put the cursor about 5 millimetres from the left top edge of the window, the "On all desktops" button becames blue, but it is not under the cursor; same thing with the other buttons. I have a nvidia fx 5500 graphics card, an intel pentium 4 cpu and 1 gb of ram. terminal output replacing kwin with itself
terminal output replacing kwin with compiz kde:
i post an image, look at the menu shadows also....

what version of KDE? this is a new clean install, you didn't copy ~/.kde from laptop?
if you turn off composting alt+shift+F12? if you disable effects? if you change desktop theme? resolution in systemsettings equals monitors? |

thanks for the reply... it is 4.7.2, I use ubuntu 11.10 oneiric ocelot i didn't copy it... i installed it right now; afterwards i installed the drivers for the graphics card with jockey-kde and some programs like the language pack, synaptic, wicd, google chrome, bashkaraoke, but the decoration were wrong on the live cd too... if i disable the effects with alt+shift+f12 it works... but it is ugly... if i change the desktop theme it doesn't work. the resolution is 1280x1024 maybe i need to disable one by one all the effects to see which one is the problem... sorry for my poor english... p.s. gtk3 applications are more ugly: they seem running on windows 95... oxygen-gtk dowsn't work... i used them with ubuntu (with unity) and they worked... |

in the advanced tab for desktop effects in systemsettings does switching from OpenGL to Xrender help?
you could try disabling/enabling the OpenGL options |
