This only happens when desktop effects are enabled, right?

Both your video card and driver would be useful information

Hm, I've got a Thinkpad T61 with an Intel Mobile GM965/GL960 card and the xf86-video-intel driver and everything is running perfectly - which precise card do you have?

Hi again
the card is Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD (GMA 4500MHD), in GM45 also i can confirm that for the time being disabling the desktop effects seems to have casued the crashes to stop..but i sure miss my kde eye candy best z. |

if you create and login as the new user with effects enabled ?

Try to enable desktop effects but disable some effects. I would e.g. start with Blur and see if still crashes.

The crash occurs in the generic animations 3rd party effect plugin. The reason is that some windows are deleted "under the hood" (ie. w/o telling the effects) in KDE 4.8.0
The latest version of the generic animations effect on kde-look.org should work around this. |
