Hello,
I have a problem with menus and tooltips, as they are not drawn properly. See the following two pictures for what I mean: This is how it supposed to look like. Sometimes the submenu is not drawn at all. If I move my mouse over the spot, it is drawn partially. (see the blender shortcut, also the border of the menu is missing) Some menus (eg firefox) are sometimes drawn partially. I tried switching the qtgraphicssystem from raster to native, but got the same effect. Disabling desktop effects brought no change either. Using KDE 4.8 (but the problem is since 4.7 I think) and a geforce 300m on official nvidia drivers (295.20) if that helps. I searched with no results, so I hope someone here can help me. Regards cbaabc |

does changing the theme help?

I changed the WidgetStyle from Cleanlooks to Oxygen, but it changed nothing.
Well, after that I played around with the desktopeffects again, and this time it seems to work correctly if I deactivate them. I changed some of the options and with XRender as compositing type (I used OpenGL before that) it seems to occur less often. I need the transparency effect, so desktopeffects AND working menus would be great. |

Changing the desktoptheme from oxygen to air did not help.
I use a gefoce 300M as written in the first post. Are there any config files for the desktopeffects? (In the past I could solve problems with kde programs by deleting the config file, reverting it to its original state) |

The only configuration file for Desktop Effects is the kwinrc configuration file - which includes some other settings as well (such as Window specific rules). It should be safe to delete it though.

I removed kwinrc and than played a bit more with the desktopeffects. Menus are shown correctly if I activate the "fade" effect (all effects->appearance->fade). If I deactivade fade, it's the same as before. So it seems, that this "fade" effect is bugged.
So, what should I do now? |

I have moved this to the KWin forum now - as it seems that this is related to KWin.
KWin folks - is this a known issue?

The fade effect is not buggy, but shadows the issue for it will cause multiple artificial repaints when the popup/tooltip shows up.
I'm not entirely sure what causes this, but we know such popups sometimes cause "weird" damage events with a (-100,-100,1,1) geometry (ie. outside the screen) matching the window size at that time what used to break damage compression and also i randomly get two popups added for the very same popup here, leading to repeating show animations what might be the very same issue. There are similar bugs #295254 & #264259 reported |

#295254 matches my problem so I will wait for a fix. Thanks for the help so far.
