As I am setting up Kubuntu for friends and family now, I am trying to add them to Jabber - a lot of people have a Google account these days. But you have to change server for it to work. talk.google.com and port 5223 . Then it works ok. So I do have a couple of friends there.
I also wish that I could set connection preferences for all acounts separately - MSN as invisible, Jabber as Online... Could even be good on a per person level as you can do in ICQ.

According to his, the feature looks like planned. Just take a look at it : Todo : Jabber Jingle video support Jabber Jingle ICE support Jingle Video and ICE supports are respectively the video and sound system of Jabber. The same Google uses if I'm not misleading ? |

Yes, it is there - my fault - just don't know how I could miss this, especially after finding this link by myself (probably because at that moment "Jingle" did say nothing to me). I have corrected the original post not to confuse the others. |

why? is this really hard to implement so no one is able to do this... or is it to unimportant because nowadays desktop users don't do voip anymore? or is there just no one working on kopete anymore? maybe one should drop the "multi" in the messenger and concentrate on the free protocols..

Kopete is effectively dead.
KDE Telepathy is introducing jabber video (including Google Talk). 0.4 release which includes this is due soon. |

It's dead? No it is a great IM client!

It has no-one developing on it, and the backends are impossible to maintain.
Ours will be better. It's based on a lot of the same principles, and the developers (me anyway) are people who grew up on using Kopete and will have similar goals and features. |

Ok, that sounds good, is their IRC support planned for the new one?
