Hello,
I have webcam working in kopete on my notebook, but I can't use it. I have found out that kopete supports video conferences only for MSN and Yahoo protocols. I do not use them - I use only ICQ and google talk. Google talk does support video chat, and as I could see some posts in the inet, it does not use some proprietary or closed codecs, so it must be possible to implement it. It would be wonderful if kopete did support google video chat. Also I do not know, if video chatting it a part of jabber protocol, or it stands separately, but I think it would be great if we could share video with any jabber user (not only gtalk) in kopete.

I can neither confirm nor deny the validity of that statement. (In other words, this post is pointless ) Anyone else know whether this is true?

+1 How nice it would be to break free of the proprietry stranglehold of MSN and Skype for video calls...

Got my vote as well. I miss a solid and dependable alternative. Jabber with audio and video seems to be the way to go. Oh, and by checking the Jingle specs, it seems it will be possible to interoperate with SIP. So IP telephony, here we come!

Just to add something to this: My webcam works absolutely perfect in Kdenlive. Good picture, good colors. But in Kopete, I only get scrambled lines. So I would love a way to manually configure the camera (I could just steal the configuration from Kdenlive).

I think Kopete has the potential of becoming the "mother of all", but it really need to focus on getting absolutely everything right for Jabber as it seems to be the best open alternative we have. Linux needs "killer apps" and it is only a matter of perfecting the right parts. MSN, Yahoo, ICQ is all good (still missing Skype, but have heard some rumors...). What we need now (apart from some bugfixing here and there...) is to get all in for Jabber. Perfect audio, perfect video and perfect filetransfers. I have one more wish - using Kopete to initiate remote desktop (remote helpdesk) connection for people behind firewalls in each end. Then I have the tool I need to help all my friends with Kubuntu installations

I'd love to move away from MSN, especially.
Yet my Jabber list remains empty... >.<'
