This idea is for a plasmoid calendar with a Kontact/Akonadi integration that provides simple view of registered events and a simple editing function.
Usage case: The mockup shows the procedure of adding a new event to the calendar. Days that have events are highlighted. Clicking on a day brings up a mini event list. Events are shown in order and include 'time', 'alarm'(highlighted when set), 'title' and mini 'description'. At the bottom of the event list there is an 'add' action, which brings up a larger panel to input the event's info. On the left hand-side of this new panel are the 'accept' and 'delete' actions, while on the right is a button that will launch Kontact for the specific event. Inputting the event's info is done by clicking on the appropriate fields. Once done, click the 'accept' button to finish editing and add the event to the list, or the 'delete' to reject it. Existing events from the list are also clickable, bringing again the same editing panel. This allows editing or deleting existing events, or invoking Kontact for that particular event. Colour coding indicates the type of an event. The mockup uses 'blue' for recurrent events (e.g. every second Tuesday, the user has 'Lunch with Kate'). Setting recurrent events requires launching Kontact, unless a simple UI can be found for this. Rationale: Most calendar events are simple, thus making it possible to use a minimalistic interface for simple viewing and editing. Invoking a full blown calendar application, such as Kontact, to check or set simple events is cumbersome and inefficient. |

This would likely be best implemented using Akonadi, allowing the data to be used automatically by all other PIM applications ( once ported to Akonadi )

I was about to request such a feature. When KOrganizer's notifications suddenly stopped working for me, I looked for a plasmoid that would let me see my events, but I didn't find one that displayed a calendar.
This would be very useful, maybe integrated with the existing KOrganizer notifier?

I am pretty sure this is already planned for the normal plasma calendar.

TheBlackCat, do you have a link/project page for that, or is it just word of mouth/speculation. I'd like to entertain the idea of attempting to implement this, but if something is already in progress, it's probably best to contribute to that.

I seem to remember reading it on a blog post on planet kde, but I can't find it now.

This is a great idea.
May I add a feature, please? There should be a choice to change the "classic" calendar view to an "event list" like the popup in the mockup above. Current month/week/day view would be really cool. Thanx! |

Thanks. I guess I'll make the author aware of this proposal. Maybe he can get some ideas on the UI front. |

I saw this on planetkde as well. I guess this should be moved to "in progress" but I hope the writer of that blog sees this brainstorm and how popular this idea is |
