While using a Windows NT 6.X box, I noticed that the new explorer offers to use UAC to elevate the privileges for when you encounter a folder the admin user's limited mode doesn't have access to.

I was thinking that Dolphin could do the same thing by using PolicyKit to execute a new KIO couldn't it, so that users don't have to create a new instance of Dolphin to browse or copy to root/denied folders couldn't it? Unless if Dolphin and KIO's can't be running as different users...

What do you think?

The Kauth system will do this once it is integrated into dolphin.

Is this in progress? I tried searching for it, and most of the stuff comes from 2009? ...well there is this https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=243156

Hello,

I think this approach would be dangerous. Dolphin isn't designed to be run as root, nor is any Qt app I can think of. Dolphin has third-party plugins, which could be malicious.
