Hi,

Having just discovered the delights of Ubuntu 12.04 after using Windows 7 since 2009, I'm now going back to all those great Apps I used to use before Win7. Amarok is one such, and is brilliant, but I have a huge problem: in the local collection (sorted by Artist/Year/Album (brilliant!)), when an album is opened up, the track list appears to be totally random.

Is it possible to sort the local collection by Artist/Year/Album/Track?

TIA

Do you have the track number tag set correctly? Amarok relies on correct id3 tags.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Why unfortunately?
FWIW, I can't reproduce this here, do you have any other filter set in the Collection Browser that could cause that problem? Jusat to make sure: the track number is not in the title tag but the number tag, right?

"Unfortunately" because despite having the relevant data the track order is wrong.

The tags were the first things I checked. Its not just one album, its all of them....the link is to a PNG of part of my collection showing that the track order is wrong and the the tags are filled in:

https://docs.google.com/open?id=0Bw6CaE ... UNhRm13SE0

This is a fresh installation of Amarok onto a fresh installation of Ubuntu 12.04. I have not as yet changed anything in the Amarok config except to point it at my music.

Any ideas?

BTW Thanks for taking the time to assist.

Cheers

There is something quite strange in your tags: you use the album title also in the album artist tag, but you should put the artist inside there instead. Try if that helps.

Some say that seeing the obvious is a sign of a genius.....thanks.

BUT.......

If I delete the Album Artist for all the tracks in that album the result is that the album is relocated to "Various Artists" (!). Putting "Pink Floyd" in as the Album Artist the album is put back in with the rest of the Pink Floyd albums, but with the track order problem as before.

If I use Nautilus to view the file properties, when the Album Artist is deleted from a track, the album name (in Nautilus) is changed to "Unknown". If I then type an Album Artist Name and save, Nautilus then (after closing properties and re-opening them) shows that name as the Album name......

The music collection that I'm playing with under Amarok is a copy of my collection that I have under Windows. Using dbPowerAmp to examine the tags, none of the albums I examined had the Album name saved in the Album Artist field.

I would appreciate any more suggestions.

Thanks for your help so far.

Well, yes, to avoid a classification to various artist the album artist must be set, but the artist name, not the album name.

Again, I can't reproduce this here, all my albums show the tracks in the correct order. Maybe some of the tracks do have tags set that are not in common with the other tracks of the album? Normally only the track name and track number should differ.

Thanks for your perseverance.

The problem does seem to be the meta data. It is possible that Amarok is reading things that are not there. I've noticed that when editing track data for a whole album, if the "per Track" option is selected, the Disk Number shown for each track varies wildly - 1,2,3000,2000 etc. Even on albums that were only ever 1 CD.

Looks like I have a lot of editing to do.

:-(
