Just downloaded Amarok 2.6 in my new Arch Linux and does not play mp3, ogg files. flac are played.
The Amarok-s test goes well.
I can play mp3 and ogg in MPlayer.

which phonon backend are you using? choice is vlc or gstreamer. I'd guess you are missing some gstreamer and/or vlc packages. try the phonon backend you aren't using

mPlayer doesn't use the same codecs for playback, so it's not relevant to your issue

for gstreamer the Arch wiki suggest you run

pacman -S gstreamer0.10-plugins

for VLC you should run

pacman -S vlc

Well I finally fixed it installing all these packages...
1) gstreamer0.10-bad-plugins
2) gstreamer0.10-base-plugins
3) gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg
4) gstreamer0.10-good-plugins
5) gstreamer0.10-ugly-plugins
I firstly thought they were not all need.
