CD rip problem

Tue Jan 29, 2013 4:54 pm
Sorry to post what i'm sure is a standard question, but i can't see any solution (that works) in the forums...

I'm running Mageia 2 and have just installed Amarok 2.5.0. Everything's fine - *except*...i can't get any "CD rip" options; on right-clicking the CD title, the popup menu just has "add to playlist", "replace playlist", and "edit track details" options. There's no "Copy to Local Collection" option.

I've got everything i can think of installed that might be related to this (lame, cdparanoia, kdemultimedia), but no joy. No problem ripping with that old standby grip.

Any suggestions (other than the banal "use grip")? I'm new to Amarok, so it might be very basic user error....

Thanks

This is going to "other than banal" as I don't have now any Audio CD at hand now, but have you tried to use Dolphin kio-slave function to rip audio CD? (I believe you use KDE and not Amarok on other environments.)

Open Dophin and press Ctrl+L to get address bar in writable mode. Then write as address "audiocd:/". It shows you the content of Audio CD in your drive as directories of different file types. From there you can just copy wanted tracks in wanted format to directory where you want them and they get ripped on the fly.
Yes it is dirty hack around the problem (if it works for you) as it doesn't use Amarok itself but that tip can help you sometimes later.

Amarok 2.5 is rather outdated, the current release is 2.7. I can rip a CD here without problem.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Well, an Audio CD should just show up in Dolphin, and then copy to another location should start the rip. Of course one still has to select the desired file type, but that is quite easy :)

Thanks, guys. 2.5 is the version that (still) comes packaged with Mageia; i just tried building 2.7, but the build breaks with errors that are above my pay grade to decode. The Dolphin trick is a neat one that i didn't know of before, but in practice i've just fallen back to audex [slightly less banal than grep :)]
