Configuring Amarok Layout

Tue Mar 12, 2013 2:45 am
Hi,

I'm using Amarok 2.7.0 on KDE 4.10.1.

1. When I try to move the toolbar to the bottom (Layout unlocked), the toolbar never locks but continues to float. Can the toolbar be moved to the bottom?

2. I created a new playlist layout. The columns in the new layout all appear correctly, but there are no column headers to identify the columns. Is there a way to display column headers?

Thanks. :)

1. You need to unlock the layout in the View menu so you can move the different elements around.
2. The playlist is not organized in columns, so no, there are no headers.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Hi,

I understand that the layout must be unlocked. :) The problem is me --- I was not grasping how to dock the toolbar after moving. The toolbar remained in a float position. However, I tried again and noticed that to dock actually requires very slow movement such that the layout interface suddenly creates a gap or opening. Then I learned the trick is to not try to nudge the toolbar docking handle exactly next to the left window border but instead to simply release the toolbar in the newly created gap opening. Not entirely intuitive but hopefully my explanation helps somebody in the future. :)

Moving the toolbar to the bottom helps me because I tend to run the app minimized in the tray and when I restore the app to view from the system tray my mouse pointer is at the bottom of the screen and the toolbar is now closer. Not saying the default layout should be changed but perhaps something to consider. Anyway, we now can consider the first question resolved. :)

Regarding the second question, I'm unsure we are referring to the same thing. I'm referring to the Playlist pane and not the playlist in the Media Sources pane. That is, after I created the new layout, all of the columns are in the correct order but there are no headings to identify the columns. I suspect most people don't need a heading bar but seems that would be nice. Seems when a user defines a new layout the tool should allow adding a heading bar to identify the columns?

Thanks. :)

Hmm. Bad news. After successfully moving and docking the toolbar to the bottom, the next time I opened Amarok the toolbar was floating. Does not matter whether I have the layout locked or unlocked. Seems the only thing that works is the toolbar at the top. :(

Also, I probably should file a bug report but about every third time I use Amarok the app crashes when I quit. :(

I see no crash on quit in that version, please make sure you don't have old configuration files from previous installations, that it is not a 3rd-party script causing this, and of course, if it is reproducible reliably, file a bug with a valid backtrace.

Hi,

Any ideas why the toolbar floats after restarting Amarok? I tried this after deleting all Amarok config files and still could not get the toolbar to remain at the bottom without floating.

Thanks. :)

Please file a bug for that, it doesn indeed float. I will confirm the bug once it is submitted.

I will file a bug report.

Actually, the problem is much worse. I spent about 45 minutes last night repeating several different ways to move the toolbars. The result is insanity for any user. :) I hope today to formalize the steps for the bug report but docking needs some work. Incredibly, in the end I did manage to get the toolbar docked at the bottom but I had to follow a strict method and I felt like Houdini's incarnation to get that far. Hint: toggle the toolbar style between main and slim and you'll see how the docking breaks. :)
