Bug ? Some musics don't appear

Sun Jul 21, 2013 9:49 pm
Hello,

I think it's a bug, but maybe there is a way to solve it.
I have copied some musics from a folder A in my collection into an other folder B in my collection (in order to copy them after on a usb stick), and when I removed the folder B, all musics in folder A doesn't appear anymore !

You can try it for a music :
cp a.ogg tmp/a.ogg
==> go to amarok, the music is still here but the file path is now tmp/a.ogg
rm tmp/a.ogg
==> The music doesn't appear in amarok

To make them appear again I found a hack :
mv a.ogg /tmp/a.ogg
mv /tmp/a.ogg a.ogg
but I've to make it for all files and it can be long...

Moreover when I do it I lose every file information, like the labels, the mark, the lyrics... (I tried scan collection but it doesn't work)

Do you know how I could get my music back, with the informations available ? And is there a way to write the informations into the file to avoid such problems ?

Thanks,

Tobias Bora.

Which Amarok version, which Distribution, which KDE version? Please don't forget essential information when asking questions.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Thanks for the answer.

So I use Kubuntu 12.10, KDE 4.10.5, and Amarok 2.7.1.

Usually that should be enough to just copy stuff, better than moving it anyway. Also of course you need to make sure you always have enough space when you are moving files. Did you try a full collection rescan?

FWIW: I can't reproduce this here, using Amarok v2.7.90-54-ge09d535

I've about 400Go free space disk so I don't think that space disk is a problem here.

What do you mean by "that should be enough to just copy stuff" ? I can't make "cp a.ogg a.ogg" so I need to move the file first no ?

I can see this in the log of 2.8 :
"Local Collection and Collection Browser were fixed to update correctly when tracks are changed or removed."
Maybe that's why you don't have any problem. I'll try to compil it to check.

Yes I tried to do Tools/update collection but the problem is still here. I then try to go in Configuration/collection and it works, all my music is recovered ! Thanks a lot ! But there is still a problem : all labels have been deleted !!! Is there a way to try to recover them ? I tried to make some backup of .kde/share/apps/amarok. And is there a way to write the labels in files instead of in a database because it's very annoying to keep the labels when I copy music from a computer to an other...

What labels are you talking about, id3 tags? Amarok doesn't erase anything unless you tell it to do so,.
In the version you use there is a caching bug with the collection, that's why I suggest you do a full collection update, then restart Amarok.

FWIW, it would be nice if you could activate the distribution you use in your profile, it makes our support work much easier.

I mean the label in "Edit Track informations --> Label tab".

I've added Kubuntu 12.10 in my profil.

No, not currently, but you can make a database dump so you have the table. Or you can use an external MySQL server so you can easily share the database between more than one computer

Um… It's not very practical… And in the database is the absolute path recorded or is it only the name of the song ? And when we remove a song, is its label removel in the same time ? I think that I lost all my labels with somethink like this.

How could I check if I've really lost all my labels or if I can recover them ? Where is the label's database ?

Thanks.

There is only one single database, the labels are in a table of it. The database is stored in $HOME/.kde/share/apps/amarok/mysqle/

Great thanks !

I've updated in Amarok 2.8, and I can confirm that the bug isn't present anymore ! But I didn't manage to recover my old labels, so I'll create them again...

Thank you.
