Amarokcollectionscanner???

Mon Aug 12, 2013 12:17 am
Hello
Always when I want to listen to Radio stations in Amarok, I realise quite a rise in CPU use. When I then look at the Systemmonitor KSysGuard, I realise that Amarokcollectionscanner is now using permanently 33% of all the capacity.

I do not use Amarok for any thing but my 5 radio stations and there is absolutely no need for Amarok to make a collection of my saved music.

Can somebody please tell me how I can stop this service working (for good).

I never realised this in my previous installations since Kubuntu 09.10, just with the new version 13.04.

Strange, the collection scanner should not run permanently at all. If you actually see an entry called amarokcollectionscanner in KSysGuard, then this is even stranger, as it is a standalone command line part of Amarok that shouldn't show up at all if you just run Amarok.

Which exact Amarok version do you use and which Phonon backend and version?

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Try using the phonon-backend-vlc instead of the gstreamer one, that should make a difference in the CPU usage.

But again: amarokcollectionscanner is a standalone command line app, separate from Amarok, that should NOT be running unless you started it. If it shows in your KSysGuard, kill it, and explore if you don't have a service entry that starts it automatically.

Thank you for this response. I have purged the G-Streamer and replaced it with the phonon-backend-vlc.

I can not see any program named «amarokcollectionscanner» in my KSysguard. However the feed still need just above 16 KiB/s.

I actually would prefer to listen to those Radio stations over the satellite with Kaffeine. However due to a unknown problem, I can not receive any TV or Radio channel on Hotbird, Astra works perfect. I have put up a question in the Kaffeine-Forum as well as in the German Ubuntuusers-Forum. The effect appeared probably after I installed Kubuntu 13.04. Do you know any distribution which I could try to see, if it is something like a missing codec? Just before I try XP to make sure it is not the PCI-card (very reluctantly, but I need a solution, as there are one or two very important channels for me on Hotbird).

No, sorry, you will have to be patient for the response in the other forum. I don't use satellite reception at all.
