Amarok converting ID3 tag to v2.4

Sun Feb 16, 2014 6:26 pm
I am not sure if this is a bug or a feature but when I change an mp3 ID3 tag in Amarok, the version of the tag is also changed (from v2.3 to v2.4).
This is a bit annoying for me, since my sony mp3 player displays album art if the tags are in v2.3.

Should I report this as a bug or is it this way on purpose?

pretty sure Amarok writes tags as 2.4 and I can't see how to change it (someone more knowledgeable will confirm or deny these assertions), you might want/need to consider a separate tag editor such as Kid3 which in the settings lets you choose between v2.3 and v2.4 for "new tags"

Hm, AFAIK this is a feature, not a bug. Since ID3v2.4 has been released in November 2000 already and only adds support for multiple tags compared to v2.3, this shouldn't cause any trouble.

We talk about over 13 years of specification existence, that is longer than Amarok actually even exists. If your player doesn't support that, maybe you should check if you can't do a firmware upgrade, as it is obviously outdated.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Thank you for your replies. I realise that sony is really at fault here (it's a relatively new mp3 player and should support v2.4).

However, I think that its not the best policy to change the tag version without asking.
It is one thing to use v.2.4 by default when creating a new tag but it's another thing to change the tag version unnecessarily and without permission when editing an existing tag.

This is, in the large scheme of things, a relatively small nuisance however. I just have to run an eyeD3 command to change the versions before copying file to my mp3 player.

I have been using Amarok for years and am grateful to the developers and community for such a great program (it took me some time time switch to amarok 2 though!).
