Hi

I have just loaded up my music library which is located on an external NAS drive with its own IP.

I would really like some help on how to set up MySql in Amarok 2.8 and make using it much easier, because judging by the size of my collection, I think it causes some lag.

So I have had a search and most tutorials are out of date or are for ubuntu/debian users.

One final thing, will I have to reload my music collection again, after I set up MySql?

You don't need to set up an external MySQL instance, just indicating the NAS in the collection should be enough. There is no performance issue between MySQL embedded and an external one.

Beware though that lags can also be caused by the NAS disks spinning down, that would need to be changed in the setting of the device, though.

I am experiencing lag when I move the mouse, for example the track scroll freezes and the comes back and the analyzer bars freeze and then come back.

There is also slow speed when selecting albums to playlists when I right click and the same goes for menu items which are also slow to choose.

I have also tried Clementine and I do not have any of these issues.

Mamarok, I am trying to keep Amarok 2.8 as my main player but these issues do get in the way of enjoying my music, so any other help would be appreciated.

not sure but:
- try the VLC backend (instead of Gstreamer)
- disable the Analyzer

how big a collection?

does Kysguard show excessive cpu or io usage when you experience the lags?
