I go to settings ---> configure amarok ---> local collection, and then check the box next to the folders I wish to include. I hit apply, full rescan, and then ok.
I go to local music and see nothing there, so I go back to settings ---> configure amarok ---> local collection, and I notice that all the folders I ticked a checkbox next to are not checked! It's as if I hit cancel instead of apply and ok. I use Gentoo Linux. I tried unmerging amarok and reemerging it. I tried rm -r /home/myuser/.kde4/share/apps/amarok/ Nothing appears to fix the problem. At one time on this install, Amarok worked perfectly. Now, it is impossible to get it to scan my local music collection. I can still browse by "files" instead of using "local music", but I would like to be able to use the local music feature. What can I do to resolve this issue? |

try erasing the amarok* files in ~/.kde4/share/config/. Then make sure you have read AND write permissions on the collection folder before starting Amarok again and repeat the settings. Of course depending on the size of your collection you will have to be patient as a first scan takes its time.
FWIW: erasing the ~/.kde4/share/apps/amarok/ folder erases the complete collection and all podcast subscriptions, not a good idea...

I tried erasing those files. I did this as well.
chown myuser /home/myuser/Music/* -R chmod 777 /home/myuser/Music/* -R Same thing! When it comes back on, it'll ask if I want to use that folder as my collection, but it won't scan a thing. I'll check the folder in the preferences, hit apply and ok, and it'll just uncheck itself. Is there a way to set this via a text configuration file so it doesn't reset itself in the GUI? |

Which exact Amarok version do you use? Do you use the default embedded database or did you configure an external one? In any case, please check your MariaDB packages.

I use 2.8.0, and whatever the default database is. I'll google and find out what a mariadb is and see if that fixes it. Thanks. |

Well, Gentoo switched to MariaDB quite a while ago, instead of MySQL, so you should be using that instead of MySQL on your system. There are extensive instructions on how to make the migration on the various Gentoo resources, please check those first.

I followed the advice in this thread.
No mariadb for me, just regular ol' mysql. http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-99 ... marok.html I changed all my shortcuts to this. LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/usr/lib64/mysql" amarok This is a ghetto workaround to get folder scanning to work, but it works, so I'm happy. |

Hi all,
I solved the same problem on gentoo editing a config member in /etc/ld.so.conf.d . imho this is an issue to be signaled on gentoo as a bug for the package maintainers, and on amarok as an improvement, since the program didn't tell nothing to the user about the impossibility to load / access the mysql shared objects.
