Ipod touch 2g

Wed Jul 09, 2014 7:02 am
I am running kubuntu 14.04 and also have a partition for fedora 20 kde spin. I have a 2g gen ipod touch that I have been trying to sync with various softwares. Before I had installed these two distros I had a dual boot set up with Win 7 and Fedora 20 which was Gnome desktop. I was able to see my ipod on this particular set up. I now have a triple boot setup windows 7, Fedora 20 KDE spin, and kubunu 14. I can not get either of the linux distros to see the the ipod touch other than it being seen as a portable media device (only shows the pictures that are not on it). I have reset the Ipod touch to factory 4.1.2 and also put some songs on it from the windows partition. I then Jailbroke it to see that would help and that has not helped. I have search all over the web looking for help without any luck. I have installed libimobile and some other lib files. I have some experience with linux but not a lot. I hope someone can help or knows of the issues. Thanks.

Have you tried the steps and other information mentioned at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Porta ... ces/iPhone
It sounds like you may need to reinitialise certain metadata as well (this was a step which was required at some point I believe).

I have read and reread that article, but have had no luck. I have looked at other as well. When I did the install of the Fedora 20 with the Gnome desktop I had some other issues, but with it I was able to see the ipod mounted to my desktop and in my file viewer. With both the Kubuntu and Fedora 20 KDE spin this does not happen. All that shows up when the ipod is plugged in is the portable media device which only shows the DCIM folder. Since I was running two different distros of linux I thought if only one of them worked then it is something to do with the other ones settings or lib files. Right not neither of them work but both are running the KDE desktop. The one on Kubuntu is version 4.13.2 I believe the other is the same. I don't know what I maybe missing. I will look for more info about which lib need to be installed to work, but so far either distro will mount the Ipod correctly. If you have any other ideas that might help me come up with a solution thanks.

Could you check the libgpod versions in those two instances?

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

I have not been able to install anything with just the libgpod only with the libgpod4. I also have done this with libimobiledevice only being with libimobiledevice4. If there is a difference then I will have to try to find the straigt libgpod and libimobiledevice. I did a install with sudo apt-get install libgpod4. The following is what I was told was installed. [libgpod4:amd64 (0.8.3-4ubuntu3)]

oh well, the numbers vary from distro to distro, what matters is the actual name of that package.

So what version do you use on the other installation?

I used the same lib files on both installs. I will check to see if it is the same or not, but I believe that they are both the same.

This is from my KDE Fedora 20 installation "Package libimobiledevice-1.1.5-3.fc20.x86_64 " and "Package libgpod-0.8.3-1.fc20.x86_64". These are the two packages that I have read that need to be installed for the distro to recognize the the ipod. I still get the same the repsonse from the computer that it is just a portable media device. I am wondering if it has something to do with KDE. I have been trying to find out if other have had similar issues. I think that I had read something about this issues with openSUSE as well. He could use GNOME and it recognized the Ipod , but not on a KDE version.

I have finally got Amarok to work in the Fedora 20 KDE spin. I was able to get the ipod to mount using ifuse. Once I got this Amarok recognized it. The ipod was also no longer invalid. However the OS is still no recognizing it as a Ipod and mounting it in the file browser. I then went back to the Kubuntu install and am having issues. Amarok sees the Ipod, but does not mount it. It gives me the following details in the error message. I have rebooted the device with no luck. I also have plugged in the device with it unlocked. I can't get the device to mount in the terminal with ifuse commands either. I get the same error as what follows ifuse: section in the following text too.

determined mount-point path to /tmp/kde-jmiller/amarok/imobiledevice_uuid_205028267f2319d872ba8d987fbb9f6aaffd8ed5
