Hi, i am a lover of kde and his applications, but i always had a problem with the equalizer of amarok. I have now ArchLinux with kernel lts (Linux 3.14.43-2-lts) and kde 4.14.8. The version of amarok is 2.8.0. I start by saying that i had the same problem since i had kde and amarok (from about one year), so in each version of kernels (just one week ago i was with kernel 4.0) and in each version of kde and amarok. The problem is that i can open the equalizer and activate it, but if i change configurations, i haven't no change in sound. Simply it seems don't reply to my commands. I have already searched some solutions in internet, and asked in more forums but i have found only the request to use gstreamer like beckend. I have always used gstreamer, so that solutions doesn't help me. I hope sombody can help me here. Thank you!

FWIW: the equalizer only works with the phonon-backend-gstreamer, and especially starting with the version 4.7.80 that uses the gstreamer 1.x libraries.
FWIW2: The equalizer works quite well for me, with Kubuntu 14.10, KDE 4.14.2 and amarok v2.8.0-471-ge70eb03, so you can presume this is fixed in the upcoming Amarok 2.9
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

I hope it will be fixed in 2.9 but i haven't so many hopes. Like i said, i currently use gstreamer like i always done but my equalizer has never warked. Another question on my mind: perhaps there are some problems about compatibility or configuration with pulseaudio? Thank you! |

Did you read what I said above? I do use the current development version and it does work. Since his is the upcoming 2.9, I don't see why it wouldn't.
As for your question: what do you mean by "problems with compatibility"? If you have Pulseaudio installed by default (which should be the case on Arch Linux according to their wiki) I don't see how this would interfere.

sure i read. I think it couldn't works because I don't think that it is a version problem (the current version seems to work for many people, well almost all users). Pulseaudio isn't installed by default in Arch, and i'm not an expert, so i don't know, i was searching only to be more clear possible giving more information possible. |

Well you are wrong on that, apparently: "Since ALSA is included in Arch Linux by default, the most common deployment scenarios include PulseAudio with ALSA." from https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PulseAudio.
And yes, it is a version problem, you can always check the ChangeLogs of both Amarok, Phonon and the Phonon-backend-gstreamer. See, I am involved in Amarok development, so you can really believe me if I tell you it does work

Well I don't wanted to say that I don't believe in you, i wanted only to say that each version of amarok I used, had an equalizer that works for many users but not for me, so I have some dubt for the next one too, not for Amarok problems, but probably for configuration problems that i could have. And believe me if i tell you that pulseaudio isn't included by default in Arch. By default you have ALSA, then if you want, you must install and configure pulseaudio by yourself. That phrase says that the most common use of pulseaudio is with ALSA so the wiki will explain mostly the configuration of pulse with ALSA. But at bottom it isn't the problem. I will wait the new version hoping the problem finally will be solved. Meanwhile thank you for your availability. |

I also have this problem and am finding it very frustrating, not to mention difficult to get to the bottom of.
I am using Linux 3.12.43-1-MANJARO x86_64 KDE: 4.14.9 Phonon GStreamer Backend 4.8.2 Amarok 2.8.0 I have pulseaudio installed. Not sure what configuration I'm lacking to get the functionality of the equaliser working. I can activate it, but none of the controls effect the sound. Would be great to get this working, if someone can point us in the right direction... |

Did you read my previous comments? This is already solved in the upcoming Amarok 2.9, so please, everybody, be patient or give a hand in development, we only have our free time to spend on Amarok.
