Hi, I just got an ipod nano 7th gen 16 GB player.
At first, Amarok saw it, but the transfer failed as for some reason amarok thinks .m4b files are incompatible with ipods!
Now, Amarok shows the ipod as invalid- model is not recognized, and states that for safety reasons it won't write to it at all.

This is confusing, esp. the bit where it changed its mind about the ipod being "valid"

I have no idea what is wrong, the ipod was connected to windows w itunes to initialize it, and I checked it on windows/itunes after amarok suddenly decided it was invalid, no problems there....

So why is amarok now calling the ipod invalid and refusing to write to it?
And, why would amarok have failed the 1st time, when it did try to write to it, thinking that .m4b is not compatible?

How do I get my audiobooks onto my Ipod?

The answer is rather simple, even if you will probably not like it: the newer the Apple device, the less likely it will be supported.

We use libgpod to address iPods and iPhones, and, since these devices are proprietary and with a completely closed operating system, everything needs to be reverse-engineered.
Also, Amarok does not consider mp4 or m4b files as invalid, it is the database of the iPod that can't be addressed, for the reasons mentioned above.

Please do not blame Amarok or the libraries we use, the problem is the iPod/iPhone. The best solution is always to avoid that sort of device, as Apple tries everything to avoid people using these devices with something else than their proprietary systems.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...
