try re-installing the package
did it ever work? run with --debug and --nofork options as suggested, as the output will be large use the bb code tags or post to pastebin.com if possible |

That sounds like https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=349313.
It has been "fixed" post 2.8 by using SSL by default when connecting to Wikipedia, this works around the problem. Your Slackware package probably doesn't include this fix though. In this case you'd have to build the latest git version yourself or ask your distribution to add the patch mentioned in that bug report. Here in openSUSE we do so since July... Or wait until you get Amarok 2.9 (it isn't released yet), but I don't know how such version upgrades are handled in Slackware. |

don't see an obvious Wiki error in the debug listing
try changing the applets "use ssl" setting of it's available, the wrench & screw driver icon see the the bug pointed out by wolfie323 earlier in the thread as that could be you issue |

There is no option on applets explorer to SSL, I dont understand exactly how to configure the SSL |

Yes. This option has been introduced *after* 2.8, as I wrote. So again, you'd either have to:
