Hi everyone,
I have recently started writing Vorbisgain values into my music files. However, I have both ripped albums from physical CDs and also single Ogg-tracks from Bandcamp that do not belong to a specific album. I would like to use the replay gain album-mode in Amarok constantly, as I want more silent songs on albums to keep their dynamics, but if my playlist also contains single tracks without a specified album gain value, they are played at the normal volume, which is usually around 8-10 dB louder than my albums. Is there any possibility to configure Amarok so that it will use the track replay gain value if there is no album gain set? That way, I could keep the automatic gain setting on album-mode, but would not have to manually turn down the volume every time a single track is played. Is there any plugin available or could I edit the preferences/source somehow to make this possible? Kind regards and thanks for making this great program! |

This configuration option doesn't exist, but wouldn't it be much easier to set it to track-mode by default? That should also include the albums, no?
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

Hello Mamarok,
Technically, this would indeed include the albums, since Vorbisgain also writes track gain values next to the album gain when processing the files. However, selecting the track-mode changes the gain also in between tracks on an album. The problem that this introduces is that sometimes albums have more silent intro and outro tracks, for example, which are deliberately mastered more silently or may even feature other instruments, such as strings and orchestra while the other songs on the album are highly compressed rock songs. I would like to keep these dynamics within an album (which, I guess, the album-mode was originally created for), but at the same time have Amarok adjust the volume to the individual track gain, if a file is not part of any album. Apparently this feature is currently not part of the program, but without having much programming experience, I could imagine that this could be implemented with a simple function and an if-statement, that's why I asked if there was a way to add it to the preferences or maybe already a plugin available that I have not seen yet. |

Could you file a wish for that? So at least it is not forgotten.
