Amarok not playing anything

Thu Jul 07, 2016 9:37 pm
I have reinstalled my openSUSE Leap 42.1 without formatting the home partition, so everything is intact as user preferences etc.

Today I wanted to test if Amarok works but it seems it can't play anything - neither any online stream, nor a local mp3 file. Pressing the play button simply does nothing.

I tried starting it from console to hopefully see some info as feedback but all I got was:

Code: Select all
#amarok
libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile
QWidget::insertAction: Attempt to insert null action
**********************************************************************************************
** AMAROK WAS STARTED IN NORMAL MODE. IF YOU WANT TO SEE DEBUGGING INFORMATION, PLEASE USE: **
** amarok --debug                                                                           **
**********************************************************************************************
me@i7:~> "<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<lfm status="failed"><error code="6">User not found</error>
</lfm>
"
Calling appendChild() on a null node does nothing.
Trying to set an invalid MediaSource -> ignoring.

I even tried running 'amarok --debug', here is what it outputs when I click Play:

Code: Select all
amarok: BEGIN: void EngineController::playPause()
amarok:   [EngineController] PlayPause: EngineController state  Phonon::StoppedState
amarok:   BEGIN: void EngineController::play()
amarok:     BEGIN: void Playlist::Actions::play()

amarok:           [EngineController] play: bounded is  QObject(0x0)  current "schmidt"
amarok:           [EngineController] Just a normal, boring track... :-P
amarok:           BEGIN: void EngineController::playUrl(const KUrl&, uint, bool)
amarok:             [EngineController] URL:  KUrl("") ""

amarok: END__: LongMessageWidget::LongMessageWidget(QWidget*, const QString&, Amarok::Logger::MessageType) [Took: 0.002s]
amarok: BEGIN: LongMessageWidget::LongMessageWidget(QWidget*, const QString&, Amarok::Logger::MessageType)

amarok: END__: virtual PopupWidget::~PopupWidget() [Took: 0s]
amarok: BEGIN: virtual PopupWidget::~PopupWidget()
amarok: END__: virtual PopupWidget::~PopupWidget() [Took: 0s]

Other applications play normally but not Amarok.

Someone at openSUSE forums suggested that I switch vendor from main repo to Packman for all packages and I did. However the only effect was that Amarok stopped playing even OGG which seemed the only format which worked before that.

I wonder what the reason for all this might be. Before reinstalling openSUSE Leap 42.1 I used the same version of Amarok and I could play anything. Now after simply reinstalling I can't.

I hope someone can help.

GStreamer.

try VLC

Why? It has always worked with GStreamer so far.

smplayer works, yes. Playing things in browser too.

BTW after a reboot everything works (weird).

You need to install telepathy libs:
$ sudo pacman -S telepathy-kde
:: 12 objects in group telepathy-kde:
:: Repository extra
1) telepathy-kde-accounts-kcm 2) telepathy-kde-approver 3) telepathy-kde-auth-handler 4) telepathy-kde-call-ui 5) telepathy-kde-common-internals
6) telepathy-kde-contact-list 7) telepathy-kde-contact-runner 8 ) telepathy-kde-desktop-applets 9) telepathy-kde-filetransfer-handler
10) telepathy-kde-integration-module 11) telepathy-kde-send-file 12) telepathy-kde-text-ui

This is completely off-topic, did you see the title of the post? Locking the topic as it is almost 3 years old now.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...
