When I start Amarok, it crashes.
The terminal shows the following message:
What is going wrong? How do I set it right?

This is apparently a d-BUS problem, please report this to your distribution.
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

Same problem but solved.
Remove the hidden directory .kde from your home directory (move it somewhere) Start Amarok Close Amarok and replace the new /.kde/share/apps/amarok directory with your old one. Working again and lists preserved. Other programs (e.g. Kmail or Korganiser) using the .kde settings files can possibly also be moved back to preserve settings. I haven't found one I need yet. Best wishes John F.

@jfarrar, tried it slightly differently. Just renamed ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok and restarted amarok. No change. Still exactly the same error.

Yes, I tried that first but it didn't work. It must be one of the other config files in .KDE. It was only when I removed the entire directory that Amarok started.

How about reporting this to your distribution? The error message clearly shows there is a problem with d-bus connection, and that is a bug that should be reported.
FWIW: do not erase the ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/ folder, else you will loose all stats and the database. FWIW2: if there really was a problem with the configuration, the only removal that would make sense is the amarok* files in ~/.kde/share/config/

The original poster is running Fedora, I'm running a derivative, Korora. Red Hat and Fedora are rather notorious in their disdain for derivatives and will not accept bug reports from them.
In my advice I pointed out that ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/ folder does not have to be removed. I removed it then replaced the new one created when Amarok started by the one I had removed which meant all my configs were preserved. Clearly there is another config file that was causing the d-bus problem. I should have gone through them individually to isolate the culprit but frankly, life is too short. Removing all the .kde folder has had very little effect on my set up (lost a couple of settings in Gewnview and Krusader but no real problem) and resolved the problem. Best wishes John F.

I had this problem, using Mageia6.
Fixed by removing then reinstalling the dbus-x11 package. This removed Amarok, and a bunch of dbus stuff, but after reinstalling the dbus-x11 and Amarok packages, Amarok started up again. Note I did try the removal of ~/.kde4/share/apps/amarok and /.kde4/ and .kde folders but none of those tricks were any good in getting Amarok to use the dbus sockets thingy. Same errors were reported with a crash of Amarok Reinstall of the dbus elements was what worked for me. GM |
