Hello,
I'd like to use raspberry pi 3 + ubuntu for an "audiophile" sound. I have a m2tech Hiface Evo card that is connected to an external DAC. I tried to use mpd + alsa with good results, but I would try to compare it with the Amarok player using Gstreamer phonon. Now, the audiophile sound provides, among other things, the disabling of the volume. Hiface hasn't a hardware or software volume control. In the mpd's config, however, I disabled the mixer with the value "none" and so I am sure I haven't the volume control (in various mpd's front-ends the volume bar is either disabled or has no effect on the sound). I would like to achieve the same result with Amarok and Gstreamer, but I can't find the right command on the web documentation. The Amarok's volume control has effects on reproduction. I precise that I have disabled Pulse. How can I disable/bypass the volume on Gstreamer (or Amarok) settings? Thanks in advance! |

Sorry, but that would need a complete rewrite. Also disabling Pulseaudio will hamper your system, as it is the base for the gstreamer plugins to run properly in Phonon, the sound engine used by Amarok. Just to be precise enough: Amarok does not use Gstreamer directly, it uses Phonon.
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

Thanks for your reply. I disabled Pulseaudio because I read that alsa handles the sound in a better way than Pulseaudio and that it could interfere with alsa. The Phonon (with Gstreamer as backend) should work with the only alsa audio engine. Anyway, I'd like to achieve the same result obtained with mpd: to disable the software volume control. Do you think it's impossible with any config settings as in mpd? Thanks in advance! |

What you read about Alsa, while true, is just outdated information, since nowadays everybody uses Pulseaudio, so disabling it puts you at risk of running into unforeseen issues. I don't know if nowadays somebody even ships Phonon not on top of Pulseaudio.
Again, you would have to rewrite the codebase to disable the built-in volume control, so no, you can't just compare Amarok to mpd
