Wikipedia integration

Tue Dec 18, 2018 8:21 pm
Is there any movement to re-enable Wikipedia or should I consider this to be a lost cause?

I presume you are using an early version of the Qt 5 port, don't you? The problem lies in the amount of work needed to rewrite the complete stack of the context view, as it can't just be ported over like the rest of the code. Everything needs to be rewritten in QML and we don't have many people working on it currently.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Is there anything new on this subject? Since I began using opensuse 15.1 wikipedia has just stopped working in Amarok, and I miss it.

Thanks, Bob

We need volunteers to work on the Plasma widget port to QML, it's not really difficult, but boring and repetitive, so not the most exciting work to do.

Thanks for your reply. I wish I knew how to do that, but I don't.

Actually, the Wikipedia applet has been ported since quite some time.

But it currently doesn't work here, it just endlessly reloads the page.
I do remember using it successfully already in the Qt5 port some time (one year? one and a half? I'm not sure...) ago, so maybe it just needs some adjustment to newer Qt(WebEngine) versions...

The version in openSUSE Leap 15.1 is still Qt4/KDE4 based though, and it is built without the Wikipedia applet, because that needs QtWebKit4 which was dropped for security reasons. (that was already the case in Leap 15.0 btw)
