So amarokapp is using 80% can you break down the results using top? What type of media are you playing?
Thanks! |

when playing mp3 files with amaroK 1.0 beta3, artsd uses 40 - 60% cpu.

I got the same kind of problem. Are you using Alsa with a custom .asoundrc to enable dmix (dynamic mixing)? When I was using this, arts was eating 80% of my CPU too. I had to rm my .asoundrc and everything went fine again.

No, i don't use .asoundrc. This file is not present in my /home dir neither in /etc.
By the way, alsa version is 1.2.2 and amarok is 1.0b4. Same problem. With al media. My system is Slackware 9.1 with upgrade packages (kde 3.2.2 etc.) |

I have the same problem.
but it looks to me that this high load only occurs when I play an audio stream. I have checked that with the system load monitor. |

I have this problem too, except it's X that hogs the CPU, and the reason is the spectrum analyzer. If you destroy the window the problem goes away. It only usees 7-30% most times, but when using a GL app it goes to 70%, and slows down a lot. Media type doesn't seem to matter.
The fix for this problem would be to allow an option to disable the spectrum analyzer. Currently the options it has don't work. Linux 2.6.5 i686 AMD Athlon(TM)Processor KDE 3.2.2 00:05.0 Multimedia audio controller: C-Media Electronics Inc CM8738 (rev 10) amarok-1.0_beta3 aRts version 1.2.1 P.S. i'm going to upgrade to beta4 now. |

uhm, actually amaroK should never use more than about 5%. i assume you didn't install libarts_mpeglib (in kdemultimedia) or your arts isn't configured properly. anyways, 30% or even 70% is waaaaay too much for amarok on an athlon. regards, muesli |

nope, is is _definetely_ the spectrum analyzer. in 1.0-final whe i disable it the CPU usage goes right down. it's probably more a problem with my XFree config than amaroK code though...
i'm going to look at the widget's source now, and run it on another box. |
