I have installed amoroK via RPM and urpmi from a Mandrake "cooker" source. I also installed osssink from the mandrake site. Unforunately, I haven't been able to get amaroK to play any file. I have tired streams, mp3s and ogg files. I can control the sound volume on other programs, i.e. juk with the amaroK volume slider. I have registered the gst plugins as instructed from other posts I have seen here. I really am at a loss as to what to do next. I have triied to use the arts engine, but amaroK will not permit this. This seems to be a great program, I would really like to get it to work. I am using mandrake 10.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. |

I had a similar program and just solved it.
The problem was the following: I had installed the amarok-1.0-2mdk.i586.rpm and the alsa and oss plugins (the latter came automatically with the first) from a cooker on my Mandrake 10. Then I did gst-register and lauched amaroK. But I was not able to play back any files at all. The songs were added to the small player window and its 'play' button blinked, but there was no sound and the time did not elapse. What was missing, was the 'mad' library for mp3 file types. Try to play a file with the command "gst-launch filesrc location=thesong.mp3 ! mad ! osssink". If it tells you that it used an erroneous pipeline because the element 'mad' was nonexistent, then that's exactly the problem. And, further, I installed audiofile and audio-formats. Hope, this helps. till |
