Hi,

When I try to start amaroK 1.0.1, it won't start and all I get is this:

[code:1][amaroK loader] connecting to /home/marcus/.kde//socket-jebus/amarok.loader_socket
[amaroK loader] amaroK not running. Trying to start it..
[amaroK loader] timed out trying to contact to amaroK.
[amaroK loader] exiting.[/code:1]

Anyone got an idea of whats going on?

Thanks,

/marcus

amaroK is split into two parts: "amarok" - a loader application, and "amarokapp" - the main program. In your case the loader was not able to start the app, for some reason.

Start the player directly by calling "amarokapp" from the shell, and look at the output.

Ah, i see. Then I understand; amarokapp segfaults when I try to start it. I'll recompile and try again!

Thanks!

I get the same message when trying to start up Amarok.
And when I start up amarokapp directly:

amarok: BEGIN [virtual void ArtsEngine::init(bool&, int, bool)]

.... and then the program freezes without refreshing the window.
I am not sure why it kills artsd as part of initialization??

I noticed this started happening the first time I ran amarok after the firewire drive containing my music library had been prematurely removed (by a power outage, although my laptop kept running). I tried rebooting afterward, but still can't run amarok.

Thanks in advance,
Klokie

p.s. it does seem like the start of a great music player. I haven't used XMMS in weeks!

I had a smiliar problem. I decided to try to remove the $HOME/.kde/apps/amarok directory since the cache was stored there. Everything seems to be working fine now.
