Hi,
Using Gentoo, with amarok 1.0.2 and gstreamer 0.8. I compiled Amarok with Gstreamer support. All went well. After I change the sound-engine to Gstreamer and I try to play a file, nothing happens. The slider just sits there and no sound is playing. When I change it back to Arts all works fine again. Restarting does not have any effect. I tested Gstreamer with the instructions found on the gstreamer-site and there seems to to be no problems. I can play the test-sound and all codecs and plugins also seem to be installed and registered. Please help? Cheers, Jeroen |

Try the CVS snapshot.
Make sure that you also have ogg/mp3 plugins installed. Post edited by: markey, at: 2004/08/18 09:22

I've compiled and installed the CVS-version, linked on the Amarok-homepage.
When I select Gstreamer (alsa) and I want to play a file, a errorbox pops-up with the message "An URL could not be loaded". When I try to change the engine back to Arts, it is not there. So I change it to xine. Xine gives me sound, but I want gstreamer or arts, not xine. Another problem I saw, was thet the collection-manager list songs triple. FYI: I'm using KDE 3.3 RC2 and Amarok is build on it also. Cheers, J |

Use the latest gstreamer and gstreamer-plugins releases, and try amaroK 1.1-beta1 with different output sinks, e.g. osssink. You might need to specify a device for your soundcard, if it does not use the default device. Also, try to restart amaroK or remove amarokrc once. For quick help with gstreamer consult #gstreamer on irc.freenode.net

Just out of interest, why do you not want to use xine? I see this kind of comment quite often and find it it a little puzzling.

I, for one, don't use xine because it outputs only to my front left and front right speakers; aRts, on the other hand, makes full use of my surround system, so it sounds better. Probably it's just a configuration issue, but why should I bother if aRts does exactly the job I want it to do?
Of course, I can only speak for myself. Maybe others have other problems. |

Problem solved. I had to emerge the gst-plugin mad.
